Promoting access to quality care for all

The official opening ceremony took place on January 24, 2019 at the Sofitel Hotel Ivoire in Abidjan in the presence of the First Counsellor of the French Ambassador to Ivory Coast, Ms. Annick Diener and the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene of Ivory Coast, Dr. Aka Aouélé Eugène. Biogaran team and in particular Mr. Emmanuel Le Doeuff, Head of International Operations of Servier’s Generics Division, were present to celebrate the launch of Biogaran’s activities in the country in the presence of many guests from the healthcare sector.

In Ivory Coast, Biogaran provides patients with medicines imported from France, meeting European standards at affordable prices. Biogaran medicines are bioequivalent to the original medicines, thus guaranteeing the same efficacy. Biogaran is also committed to collecting all cases of pharmacovigilance detected in patients in Ivory Coast.

Biogaran wants to promote the access to quality care in West and Central Africa. We want to provide products that meet European standards at an affordable price. Thanks to the good business climate and the logistical facilities it offers, Ivory Coast seems to us to be the ideal base for the development of our activities in the region. We want to make Ivory Coast the bridgehead for our development in French-speaking West and Central Africa,” said Emmanuel Le Dœuff, Head of International Operations of Servier’s Generics Division.

Fight against counterfeit drugs and support patients

The health of the people is one of the priorities that must be addressed to support and accelerate the development of the African continent. Beyond the important needs of effective, good quality and accessible medicines, the penetration rate of counterfeit drugs is very high today. Indeed, the WHO estimates that 100,000 deaths occur each year in Africa due to the consumption of counterfeit medicines. Moreover, in Ivory Coast, in 2005, 5.7% of the population suffered from diabetes and 21.7% from high blood pressure according to the same study. The prevalence of cardiovascular diseases is increasing sharply in African countries, where patient care is sometimes lacking.

Biogaran’s commitment is also reflected in the provision, in Ivory Coast at first, of free medical samples as part of screening and awareness campaigns on the management of cardiovascular pathologies, organized by the CIAN (Conseil Français des Investisseurs en Afrique) Corporate Health program.
