Meet public health challenges

The official launching ceremony took place on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at the Terrou-Bi Hotel in Dakar, in the presence of 250 guests including the Secretary General of the Senegalese Ministry of Health and Social Action, Alassane Mbengue, the Director General of the Directorate of Pharmacy and Medicines, Professor Yerim Diop, Professor Damien Sène, Head of Internal Medicine at Lariboisière Hospital, and the Head of International Operations of Servier’s Generic Division, Emmanuel Le Doeuff.

Biogaran generic drugs marketed in Senegal were chosen in close collaboration with the Senegalese Directorate of Pharmacy and Medicines in order to meet local public health challenges. Coming from 7 different therapeutic areas, these bioequivalent generic drugs are of great interest to Senegalese patients as they are not or hardly available in the country. Biogaran drugs in Senegal covers a wide range of pathologies that are particularly common in the country, such as hypertension, diabetes and cancer, among others. Biogaran also aims at marketing 10 new medicines each year in order to meet the country’s public health challenges as defined in the new 2019 National Health and Social Development Plan (NHSDP).

Work with local organizations to promote access to healthcare for all

Biogaran works with local organizations such as the Association Internationale pour le Développement et l’Education de Ngohe (A.I.D.E. Ngohe), which provides educational, health, sports, cultural and socio-economic assistance to the people of the Ngohe area. This collaboration will result in the organization of free screening campaigns and medical consultations and the distribution of medicines to promote health and therapeutic education among the people of Senegal.

Emmanuel Le Doeuff, Head of International Operations for Servier’s Generics Division, said: “Our strategy in Africa is to promote the democratization of high quality generic medicines throughout the continent. This commitment to the people of Africa is also reflected in our support and advice on the use of our medicines. Biogaran wants to become a trusted partner of patients, healthcare professionals and public authorities in Africa.”

We are pleased to welcome Biogaran today with the certainty that this pharmaceutical company will offer an affordable, safe and effective solution to the problem of access to medicines in our territory. Drug policy is one of the priorities of our governance in terms of health, which is why we will support Biogaran in its development, for the benefit of the Senegalese people” said the Secretary General of the Minister of Health and Social Action of Senegal, Alassane Mbengue.
